Interstate 22 (U.S. Highways) Interstate 22 (I-22) is a spur route of the Interstate Highway System in the United States, primarily running through the states of Alabama and Mississippi. This 238-mile-long interstate begins at Interstate 59 near Birmingham, Alabama, and extends northeastward to its current terminus at Interstate 65 near Colbert County, Alabama. The highway connects several major cities in the region, such as Tupelo, Mississippi, and Meridian, Mississippi. Construction on I-22 began in the late 1980s and was completed in 2019. Despite being part of the Interstate system, it currently lacks continuous signage as sections through Mississippi remain unsigned until completion of additional projects.
