The 1st Strategic Aerospace Division (1 SAD) is a key operational component of the United States Air Force (USAF). Established in 1952, it was initially responsible for strategic bomber operations during the Cold War era. Over time, its role has evolved to encompass missile and space-based assets as part of the USAF's nuclear triad. Currently, the 1 SAD, headquartered at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, oversees B-52 Stratofortress bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) among its responsibilities. The division plays a crucial role in maintaining the readiness and deterrence posture of the USAF's long-range strike capabilities.
