The 140th Operations Group is an operational unit of the U.S. Air Force, falling under the jurisdiction of the North Carolina Air National Guard. This group's primary mission involves the operation and maintenance of various aircraft, primarily the E-3 Sentry AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft, although it also operates the WC-130J Super Hercules for hurricane hunting missions. The 140th Operations Group is stationed at the Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio. Established in 1976, its history can be traced back to World War II with the formation of the 140th Fighter Squadron. The unit's mission is to provide airborne command and control assets to the United States Air Forces Strategic Command, Joint Force Command, and other joint task forces as required.
