General
To get the ultimate Fender Stratocaster sound, an authentic Fender Stratocaster from half a century ago is of course ideal. However, authentic Stratocasters are a prized possession and there are few people willing to part with them for a reasonable price. Luckily though, Fender have tried and succeeded in re-making the authentic '57/'62 pickups by means of reverse engineering!
Authentic components
Reverse engineering means that Fender have carefully dissected the original pickups of, in this case, a '63 Strat and studied them thoroughly in order to reproduce them. These reissued '57/'62 pickups sound exactly like those on the original vintage Stratocasters and now have alnico 5 magnets with Formvar-coated coils. The Formvar gives the sound of these pickups a clearer, warmer tint than enamel - a molten, glaze-like substance that was used from '63 onwards.
Bring back the vintage Strat sound
The '57/'63 Fender Strat pickup has alnico 5 magnets that produce sparkling trebles and warm basses that sound recognisably vintage. These pickups also have the well-known thin slanted edge. For an increased vintage vibe and feel, Fender gave these pickups a time-weathered Aged White finish. Thanks to the detailed finish, they are a better match for your vintage guitar or a hip, vintage addition to your new guitar.
